Scoring an AL1 in PSLE Does NOT Guarantee Similar Grades in Sec 1
The Secondary English Syllabus assumes that your child has a decent grasp on the language fundamentals taught from P1 to P6.
As such, there are no longer Grammar or Vocabulary MCQ segments. In their place, you find Comprehension questions, with these language fundamentals incorporated as pre-requisites.
Answering these questions requires critical thinking, inference skills and advanced answering techniques.

Recap Essential Language Fundamentals & How They Are Applied
Secondary English involves more writing and are more open-ended in nature.
This means that strong language fundamentals are essential to do well.
In this Workshops, we will reinforce key Language Skills and demonstrate how to apply them to write coherent and structured answers.

The biggest struggle that students face is the inability to write answers that hit marking requirements.
Using the same technique of lifting and writing will not work in Comprehensions at Secondary Level.
In this program, we will expose your child to various questions types and demonstrate how to craft "exam-grade" answers.
Develop Confidence Through Structured Techniques
Techniques simplify the learning process.
They provide a structured framework to fall back upon, to deal with every question systematically.
Your child will receive condensed notes that will come in handy when they face challenges with school work and practices.

Introduction to Comprehension, Summary and Composition Writing Based on the Latest Secondary 1 English Syllabus
Workshop #1: Composition Writing
(Focus on Narrative Writing, based on Sec 1 English Syllabus)
What is Covered:
i) The Structure of Narrative Essays: How to plan and organize your content to optimize your essay presentation
ii) Content Strategies: How to brainstorm and craft content that demonstrates depth and rigour
iii) Make Your Stories Stand Out: Language Elements such as "Descriptive phrases" and "Literary Devices" to make your composition stand out.
v) Guided examples & Model Answers: For easy reference and revision across various composition themes

(Includes all 6 question types + summary writing)
What is Covered:
i) How to extract information effectively: Infer and read between the lines to pull out critical information as you read
ii) Question Analysis: Identify keywords and marking requirements by analyzing the question
iii) Rephrase in your own words: Include keywords and phrases in your answers based on marking requirements, while maintaining the intended meaning
v) Guided examples & Model Answers: We break down Comprehension into individual question types and provide model answers & notes for revision.
